CR C&R 2 - Implement criteria and prioritization to manage assets and replace equipment that will revitalize parks and recreational facilities, as the planned build out of the parks and trails systems continues.
The metrics used to track Total Cumulative Participation have been changed to a more accurate and trackable figure. Participation will now be measured by the number of Recreation Facility Passes sold + Daily Pass usage + Total Program Registrations per quarter. This change provides a more accurate measure of actual participation.
The first quarter of 2026 shows that participation was on track with projections (or slightly ahead).
This is a quarterly metric.
- In the first quarter of 2026, Natural Areas volunteers and staff reached 2,434 participants at 67 activities, exceeding the goal of reaching 1,328 people by 1,106 participants.
- Some unique and highly attended activities included Eagle Watch at Fossil Creek Reservoir Natural Area with 40 individual activities and 1,047 participants, Winter Bike to Work Day, and Skygazing.
- The Natural Areas Department continues to reach diverse audiences with a variety of engaging opportunities.
The cumulative number of visits to paved trails was well above target in Q1 due to an unusually warm and dry winter. Recent system connectivity improvements like Siphon Overpass along the Mail Creek Trail help keep visits growing as well. The Strategic Trails Plan that was adopted in 2025 will guide increased mileage and quality of the trails long into the future.
